Having it all

We are living in a fast-paced busy world and if you have been paying attention to all the gurus out there then you will probably already be very well acquainted with the concept of ‘having it all’.

So, today I want to take a moment and consider what this statement means.

Firstly, what is your version of ALL? What does this mean for you?

All could be having your family with you. It could be having the books you want on your bookshelf. It may mean you get to travel wherever you want in the world. It might mean you get to go hang out with your friends or get to buy your favourite takeaway each week. It may mean your favourite artist performs and you are able to get to hear them live. It may be sitting on your balcony in silence and taking in the view.

And therein lies a very important piece of this statement. ‘All’ is transient, it is changeable, it shifts and morphs depending on who is thinking about it. My all might be walking my dog, swimming in the ocean, drinking a cup of tea while reading a book. That would be pretty close to me feeling like I have it all.

Your all might be completely different to mine. You might hanker a night out with friends a much-lauded restaurant, sipping cocktails at a trendy wine bar or hitting the busy shopping malls. I can assure you a busy shopping mall is most definitely not on my ‘having it all’ wish list!!

So, then who is having it all? Who is right? Who is wrong?

You know where I am headed don’t you. Having it all is subjective and dependent on the interpretation of the person who is considering it. This then means…..yes, having it all is subjective and having it all really is in the eye of the beholder.

So, now let’s think about this a step further. When the mantra is that you can have it all, this then means we can have what it is that we hold in our mind’s eye. The real point of this concept is that you get to choose how you live your life. You get to choose your all and this then means you get to have it all IF you choose to.

Does this mean it is easy? No, it is by no means a guarantee that it will be easy. In actual fact, you can rest assured it is likely to be h.a.r.d at times and you may even want to give up.

However, this I know for sure. If I am clear and know what I want for this magical full life of mine, then I need to relentlessly pursue anything that aligns with this view. I need to ensure I use my guiding principles as my flag post. My yes’s and my no’s start to sharpen, and I become better at determining where I need to direct my focus. I can then step out in faith that I am heading in the right direction for me.

And, if I am the director in my own fabulous life, then I can also choose to pivot and change course. It is very possible that as you grow and expand, new thoughts may come knocking and this is completely okay - welcome in fact.

The ideas and desires of your heart are likely to burst to overflowing, the possibilities will appear in front of you. All you have to do is say yes.

Now, that is exciting and fills me with a hope and wonder at my full and beautifully orchestrated life, nuanced with the very things that light me up.
